AUSTRALIA – 11 NOVEMBER 2009 — Men and Fathers, Men’s Groups, Fatherhood Practitioners, and Fatherhood organizations throughout our global village will observe International Men’s Day on Thursday, 19 November 2009. Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Australia, India, United States, Singapore, United Kingdom, Malta, South Africa, Georgia, New Zealand, Moldavia, Germany, Holland and Brazil are just some of the nations around the globe that are planning activities on International Men’s Day 2009 which will honor the selfless sacrifices of men and celebrate men’s invaluable contributions to families, communities, and society.

Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, founder of International Men’s Day (IMD) said, “International Men’s Day is about addressing the challenges and problems that men face; improving gender relations between men and women; promoting gender equality; highlighting positive male role models – not just movie stars and athletes – but “everyday working class men who are living decent, honest lives”; and creating a safer and better world”.

Diane A. Sears, IMD Coordinator in the USA , said, “We must work together as a team. International Men’s Day provides us with a great opportunity. Strong fathers create and sustain efficiently functioning family units which positively shape the minds and souls of our children – our future – our bridge to the future. After all, isn’t it really about our children?”

Warwick Marsh, Dads4Kids and the IMD Global Coordinator, added “It is my hope that International Men’s Day will be the catalyst for men, men and fatherhood groups, individuals, both men and women to celebrate the importance of ‘Positive Male Role Models’, the theme for 2009.”

Uma Challa is the IMD Coordinator for India . She made the point that, “International women’s Day is celebrated the world over every year but we also need to have a celebration every year to recognize and honor men: our fathers, brothers, partners, sons, male friends and colleagues; for the numerous services they render and the innumerable sacrifices they make to ensure the health and well-being of the family and the society.”

Jason Thompson, Global Promotions Coordinator for IMD said, “I would like to take this opportunity to ask individuals and organizations who are planning an event to contact me with the details at: soulgany@bigpond.com”

Happy Belated Father’s Day

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Another Father’s Day has come and gone.Happy Belated Father”s Day to all dads.

Its a day in the year that celebrates what we mean to our families. A few years ago we didn’t see it as a popular day as no advertising dollars were spent.

However, for me was another day. Just like mothers, fathers feel that parenting is a full-time job. Its not meant for us to take a day off, but it is a day for us to be acknowledged. I know that I love the acknowledgment… who doesn’t??.

My joy as a dad happens everyday that I wake and see my 3 boys. Every morning I am greeted with smiles from my five month old twins, Myles and Nolan. My four year old Justin is bright and cheery, ready to take on the world. He always has a lot of questions at any given moment!

You’ve got to love it man. Its not an easy road, but the joys far out weigh the stress. Knowing that I am their role model. They hang on my every word, movement, reaction and more. I keep this in mind as I handle each situation that arise. The relationship that I have with God, their mother and people will create a foundation for them and help to determine how they will grow up in our society.

Our culture has become lax in its moral values and we now choose to quickly use a green flag when it should be a yellow or a red one! As a Dad, I need to be careful of what they watch on TV, the video games they play and the environment in which I place them. I thank God that I have a beautiful wife who has the same ideals as me. Unfortunately, not too many people can say the same

Regardless of how challenging it has become to raise children in these times, I am glad that more dads are becoming actively involved. There are more stay at home dads. This is progress! Change we can hope for, change we can believe in.

Hope you all had a great day
